PBI-USA Orientation: Saturday, Sept 19, 2009Have you ever wanted to do effective human rights work overseas? Have you ever wanted to work with communities to inspire them about the importance of human rights? Have you ever imagined yourself as a Peace Brigades International volunteer?It is our pleasure to invite you to our upcoming PBI-USA Orientation at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina!For prospective applicants to PBI field projects, this orientation offers insight into many aspects of PBI’s work, including the overall organizational culture, life as a volunteer, the importance PBI’s work and the field project sites. You also get a feel for the training methodology used by PBI field projects, such as small group discussions, role-plays, etc. This event is also a great opportunity to hear about other ways to get involved with PBI. The orientation is a phenomenal introduction to PBI’s work! Join us for a day of insightful presentations on the five countries where PBI currently operates, first-hand personal accounts of what it’s like to be a volunteer, group discussions, role-plays and other interactive exercises. We also invite country specialists from ally organizations to present on the human rights situations in Mexico, Indonesia, Guatemala, Colombia and Nepal. This Orientation is highly recommended for anyone considering applying to become a PBI Field Project volunteer, as it will offer valuable insight about the application process, life as a volunteer, the values of volunteering and life after PBI.
